The Colosseum in Verona

The Ancient Roman Amphitheater (Arena di Verona)

The history of the arena began in the 30s AD. It was built for gladiatorial fights, and then it was served as a place of burning heretics, and for different performances. Appearance of arena largely deteriorated after the earthquake in 1117. Since the XX century, annual opera festivals are held here because of the incredible acoustics. Today amphitheater is the biggest concern in the world of opera, which can hold up to 600,000 spectators per year (according to Wikipedia). Admission fee is charged for performances, but it’s free to see the ancient roman amphitheater and walk around.
